Photonics - The Revolution in Communications
30 minutes - produced 2000 - screened ABC TV 2003

Photonics is the technology that underpins the information revolution, making broadband networks a reality. This film demonstrates how.

Photonics - The Revolution in Communications illustrates graphically, with visual metaphors, how optical fibre uses light to transmit, store and sort enormous quantities of digital data, its capacity enhanced dramatically using various bits of smart technology. Photonics is making video-on-demand and far greater interactivity a possibility.

Leaders in the field describe in easy-to-follow language the physics, chemistry and engineering concepts that drive the technology, explaining how it works.

This is a half-hour science film produced for the education market. It was commissioned and funded by Australian Photonics Cooperative Research Centre with Year 11 and Year 12 students in mind. It is being distributed Australia-wide by Video Education Australia.
