Out of the Shadows

The
producers returned to Mindanao to film
this sequel to A Second Chance. Those
patients treated a year earlier and who
featured in the first film were revisited
to see whether surgery really had given
them a second chance.
Zemma,
(pictured above) was a star whose
transformation after surgery gave
us the title for this documentary.
But a four-year-old waif, Nikko,
(right) stole the limelight
becoming Interplast Australia 's
10,000th overseas surgical
patient since its inception in
1983.
Out
of the Shadows tells other
extraordinary stories of courage
and change: none more challenging
than Joseph's (left) …few
less heartrending than Jacqueline's
(right).
Out of the
Shadows features the same surgical team
from Interplast Australia of surgeons
Michael McGlynn and Peter Haertsch,
anaesthetist Joe McGuinness and theatre
sister Dee McGlynn. This was another very
low budget film. AusAID contributed A$40,000
towards the cost of production.
